  • 4 large sprigs thyme
  • 2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1¼ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely grated
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ¾ cup French’s fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook fresh green beans in boiling salted water for about 3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and cool.
  3. Sauté half of the sliced crimini mushrooms in olive oil until golden brown, then add butter and thyme, cooking until browned.
  4. Make the cream sauce by whisking flour into melted butter, then adding milk, cream, garlic, and Parmesan until thickened.
  5. Combine cooked green beans and sautéed mushrooms in a baking dish, pour the cream sauce over them, cover with foil, and bake for about 30–50 minutes.
  6. Top with fried onions and bake uncovered for an additional few minutes until fragrant.
