  • 1 cup very hot water

  • 1/2 cup butter (for vanilla cream sauce)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for vanilla cream sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for vanilla cream sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the beaten egg and molasses; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture.
  4. Slowly incorporate the very hot water until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Serve warm topped with sliced bananas, whipped cream, and a drizzle of vanilla cream sauce.
