Indulge in the delightful taste of Golden Greek Honey Pie (Melopita), a traditional Greek dessert that beautifully combines layers of crispy phyllo dough with a rich semolina filling, all drizzled with warm honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 sheets of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semolina flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup honey, warmed
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer one sheet of phyllo in the dish, brushing generously with melted butter; repeat this process with six more sheets.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together semolina flour, eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth. Pour over the phyllo base.
  4. Top with the last sheet of phyllo, brushing each layer lightly with butter and scoring the top for easy slicing.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and set. Let cool for about 10 minutes.
  6. Drizzle warmed honey over the top and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds before serving.
