Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef chuck or stew meat
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 cloves garlic (plus extra for naan)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (14 oz)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, heat vegetable oil. Sauté chopped onion until translucent.
  2. Add minced garlic and grated ginger; cook until fragrant.
  3. Brown beef cubes on all sides before adding tomato paste and crushed tomatoes.
  4. Stir in beef broth and coconut milk; season with spices. Simmer covered for about 1.5 hours until beef is tender.
  5. For the naan dough: Combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a mixing bowl; add warm water gradually until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and let rise for about an hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Divide dough into four pieces and roll each into flat circles. Brush with minced garlic and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and golden.
  7. Serve hot curry over cooked basmati rice garnished with fresh cilantro alongside warm naan.
