  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 ½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy-bottom pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey, ground beef, and onions; cook until browned and onions are translucent (about 8 minutes). Stir in garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  2. Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and fennel seeds. Bring to a boil then reduce to simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
