  • 1 Tbsp dried culinary lavender, finely crushed
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1¼ Cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • ⅓ Cup granulated sugar (for simple syrup)
  • ⅓ Cup water (for simple syrup)
  • 2 Tbsp dried culinary lavender (for simple syrup)
  • ½ Cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 2⅓ Cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp cooled lavender simple syrup (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans with grease and parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, crushed lavender, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool before applying lavender simple syrup made from sugar, water, and dried lavender.
  7. For frosting, beat softened butter and gradually add powdered sugar and cooled syrup until smooth.
