  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
  • 1/8 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 large egg whites

Instructions

  1. Combine lukewarm milk, water, and yeast in a mixing bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, flour, melted butter, and salt to the mixture. Mix until combined and knead until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth; let rise for about 30 minutes or until doubled.
  4. In a saucepan over low heat, mix cocoa powder, cream, chocolate chips, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle (12×18 inches) on a floured surface.
  6. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs. Roll tightly from one end.
  7. Cut into about 8 equal pieces and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Beat egg whites in a clean bowl until foamy; gradually add sugar until stiff peaks form then mix in cream of tartar and vanilla.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake rolls for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
