  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (to brown)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 12 Tbsp milk or cream (as needed for consistency)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt or chopped toasted pecans (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in maple syrup.
  3. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  5. Chill dough for at least one hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop dough onto sheets, leaving space between cookies, and bake for 10–12 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool before dipping in brown butter icing made from browned butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk.
