  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (for filling)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for filling)
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring (for filling)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream (for frosting)
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red Vegan Gelatin (for decoration)
  • Red syrup or edible red gel (for decoration)
  • Straws (not edible)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients alternating with buttermilk.
  4. Spoon batter into muffin tin and bake for 18–20 minutes; let cool completely.
  5. For the filling, mix cake crumbs with condensed milk and melted butter until smooth; add red food coloring for an intense hue.
  6. Hollow out cooled cupcakes and fill with the red velvet mixture.
  7. Prepare the frosting by beating softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar and cream until smooth; color as desired.
  8. Frost cupcakes then decorate with candy fangs and red syrup.
